May 2014 – World Cup News Reports
I had been working on shooting news reports for Aljazeera’s Bein Sports for a couple of months and the month of May as well as a part of June ended up being all about the world cup which kept my partner and I very busy. Thankfully this opportunity allowed me to explore the world of sports news a lot more.
The topics of the reports ranged from the opening of the Korean national soccer team’s pre-tournament training camp , to telling the story about Korea’s famous Red Devils, to getting coverage of the massive crowds in Seoul’s core who waited all night to watch the world cup games early in the morning. Every time we went out to shoot, something new was being learned and experienced which is one of my favorite parts of this job.
My partner and I unexpectedly ended up getting coverage from Korean local sports website mosen.mt.co.kr which we had not expected.

For these reports I shot with small sensor cameras which were the Sony NX5U and PMW-160. By using these cameras I was able to capture fast action and record clean broadcast audio directly into the camera which I feel is really important for this type of shooting. These types of cameras are also a lot more efficient for news production. There was one project that I shot with my 5D Mark 3 because it was an interview setting and I really like the amazing image quality of this camera. I hope to bring my DSLR out to future reports where it is suitable.
May was such an exciting month I am now on the quest to find a month that is even better.
